The National Register of Public Service Interpreters is the UK's independent register for public service interpreting. Full Registration requires a Level 6 interpreting qualification, evidenced hours in legal settings, references and ongoing adherence to a Code of Professional Conduct — with a complaints and disciplinary process behind it.
The 60-second check
- Go to nrpsi.org.uk and search the interpreter's name or registration number.
- Check the languages listed — and ask the interpreter directly about dialects, which the register does not always break down.
- Confirm the registration is Full (not Interim) if your matter involves court evidence.
Why bother, if the agency says they're vetted?
Agency vetting standards vary and are not independently auditable. The register is public precisely so that instructing parties don't have to take anyone's word for it. This practice's entry: NRPSI Reg. 17911.
